2011-08-07 Opening of FY12 Board Member Position
The ICCLABC Board is announcing the annual opening of the Board of Director position for FY12. Members interested in becoming a Board of Director for next year should submit a letter of interest and qualification to the Nominating Committee or any of the current Board Members. The Nominating Committee will review the qualifications of all interested individual and make a recommendation to the membership for nomination and selection to the Board during the December chapter meeting. Introduction of the new Board member will occur during the Chapter's ABM in January.

2011-06-11 Standardize Solar PV Plan
The Green Building Committee is currently developing a standardized solar PV plan that can be utilized by participating jurisdictions. The goal is to standardize the electrical information required of the contractor and/or design professional for the installation of solar PV. The intended result is to ensure uniformity among all participating jurisdictions and to streamline the requirement and facilitating timely compliance by the installers. Members interested in participating in the ongoing activity of the Green Building Commmittee should contact the committee chairperson, Mr. Younan. 2011-02-24 Survey on 2010 LARUCP Adoption
By now, many jurisdictions have adopted and/or amended the 2010 Edition of the California Building Standards Code. As part of the effort by the various committees for the Chapter in developing uniform technical amendment for the region, the 2010 LARUCP Recommended Technical Amendments was created. The Chapter would like to survey the membership to determine what portion of the 2010 LARUCP Recommended Technical Amendments that your jurisdiction may have adopted, if any. After the surveys have been completed, a summary result will be posted. Please go to the "Surveys" webpage to begin the process.

2011-02-22 Green Building Standards Committee
The Green Committee recently met to discuss ongoing progress with developing uniform plan review checklists and forms in the enforcement and interpretation of the CALGreen Code. The next committee meeting is tentatively scheduled for March 10, 2011 at the LA County DWP Building from 2 pm to 4 pm.

2011-02-09 Fire-Life Safety Committee
During the February chapter meeting, Lawrence Brugger, retired Building Official from the City of Long Beach, was announced as the new chairperson to the Fire-Life Safety Committee. The ICC-LABC Disabled Access Committee recently updated the Chapter's Information Bulletin and Harship Determination form for 2011. 08-18-2010 CBSC Reinstate Use of PEX
The California Building Standards Commission (commission) on August 16, 2010, has taken action to remove the state’s amendment that excluded the use PEX for water piping systems from the 2007 California Plumbing Code (California Code of Regulations, Title 24, Part 5), and to amend the 2010 California Plumbing Code (California Code of Regulations, Title 24, Part 5). The regulations include mitigation measures identified in the Commission’s Second Revised Draft Environmental Impact Report (SRDEIR) and additional conditions and restrictions on the use of PEX. The Commission's action allows the statewide use of PEX in hospitals, clinics, schools, residences and commercial structures. The effective date of this action is August 18, 2010 for the 2007 CPC and January 1, 2011 for the 2010 CPC. You can view the SRDEIR on the Commission’s website:

08-16-2010 Updated Draft LARUCP Amendments dv1.10
The Structural Code, CRC Code, and the Green Building Standards Code Committees has posted an updated draft of the proposed LARUCP amendments for the membership or other interested parties to review. Any comments or recomendations should be submitted to the Chairpersons of the respective committees. The final version of this document should be available on the Chapter's website by early next week and for dues paying members it will be in WORD format for ease of copying when preparing for code adoption. This survey is intended to assist Chapter members in assessing what portion of the LARCUP amendments are being adopted by other jurisdictions and the number of jurisdictions participating in the uniform regional code adoption program. 08-04-2010 CBSC Repeal Use of PEX
The California Building Standards Commission has been ordered by the Alameda County Superior Court to repeal provisions of the 2007 California Plumbing Code (CPC) allowing PEX plastic piping. The adoption of the PEX provisions in January 2009 was challenged, and the Court ruled that the Commission did not adequately address all requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act. Accordingly the Commission voted to repeal the PEX provisions in section 604.11 and Table 6-4 of the CPC to comply with the court decision. For more information, please visit www.bsc.ca.gov.

03-06-2010 Posting of Survey Results
The results of 3 surveys located on the "Surveys" webpage of the Chapter's website are now available for viewing. Those interested in submitting a new survey should submit a request to the Board Secretary.

03-04-2010 Summary of CRC Code Committee Activity
The CRC Code Committee concluded it's 3rd meeting. Several issues were discussed and actions taken, including the decision to pursue an amendment to require a registered design professional for wood frame structures greater than 1-story in height (based upon a majority vote of the committee members and survey received from jurisdictional members. Chapter assignements was distributed for review to committee members present at the meeting. The next scheduled meeting is March 25, 2010. Please contact the Chairperson or the Board Liason if you are interested in participating in the committee. Committee working documents, when they are available, will be posted to the "CRC Code" webpage of the Chapter's website.

03-02-2010 Summary of Structural Code Committee Activity
The Structural Code Committee began the review of the 2009 IBC. A brief summary on the changes and recommended action on the structural chapters (i.e., 16 thru 24) is located on the "Structural Code" webpage of the Chapter's website. The committee was well attended by several jurisdictional members, SEAOSC members, and members of the design and construction industries. The next scheduled meeting is March 16, 2010. Please contact the Chairperson or the Board Liason if you are interested in participating in the committee.

02-25-2010 Highlight of CALBO ABM Event
The Chapter hosted a hospitality suite at the CALBO ABM on February 25, 2010 at the Disneyland Hotel. Fun and entertainment was provided to many of the visiting CALBO participants. The Chapter's Board of Directors and some of it's membership had the opportunity to network with other colleagues from up north and down south. Thanks to all the sponsors and volunteers who made this event possible. We look forward to seeing you there again at next year's CALBO ABM in Napa.

02-11-2010 Highlight of February Monthly Chapter Meeting
Our February 11th Monthly Chapter meeting hopefully sets the tone for the rest of the year. It was attended by over 90 members, over a dozen of which were attending for their first time. Welcome to all of our new attendees and members.
