The 2012 training matrix was a success. It was wonderful to see so many people in attendance to gain valuable and low-cost training. The positive feedback that I heard among the attendees reflects well on both the trainers and topics. Many thanks to Paul Armstrong, Chuck Delao and Mazen Dudar for organizing the training and coordinating the trainers.

To the trainers, Stuart Tom, Ewa O'Neal, Fady Mattar, Jay Elbettar, Jon Traw, Don Godfrey, Dan Kaisers, Karyn Beebe, Paul Armstrong, Chuck Delao, and Mazen Dudar, thank you for donating your valuable time to provide much needed training to the membership. Your dedication and support to the Chapter is immeasurable. On behalf of the Board, I want to express our gratitude and appreciation.

The Board is working hard to ensure additional training will be provided throughout the year. We will make every effort to keep the cost low, and where possible, make it free for the membership. Thank you for your support. The Board is looking forward to seeing the membership at the next event or training.

Some of our members may have recently mailed correspondences or payments to the Chapter only to have them returned undelivered. Unfortunately, the Board of Directors did not provide timely notification to the membership regarding a recent decision to change the Chapter's mailing address for business and financial reason. We apologize for an inconvenience this may have caused. An email notification will be forthcoming to update the membership on the Chapter's new mailing address. Please note that the new mailing address has been changed to:

      5360 Workman Mill Road
      Whittier, CA 90601

If this address looks familiar to you, it should be as it is the same address as ICC's regional office in Whittier. It is highly recommended that all mails sent to this address relating to the Chapter should be addressed to the ICC Los Angeles Basin Chapter. Otherwise the mail will inadvertently be received by ICC and not the Chapter. Please update your records accordingly. We appreciate it. Thank you.

I am excited and honored to be serving as your president this year and look forward to working with the new officers, Ron Takiguchi and Addison Smith, and the current officers, Victor Cuevas and Mazen Dudar.  It is this Board's goal, as it has been in past years, to focus our efforts in bringing to the membership the following:

1.  Provide interesting and relevant training for free or at low-cost to help the membership gain valuable training and to get their CEUs.  During this economic environment, we recognize the challenge and difficulty to attend training with shrinking budget.  The Board will look to put together more training throughout the year and at chapter meetings.

2.  Increase our role and presence during this year's code development hearing.  The Board will look to engage the chapter's various committees to help evaluate new code proposals and to recommend a position for the chapter and it's membership.  Furthermore, the Board will work hard to gain support and help to coordinate with other chapters and CALBO to ensure that there is unity in CA.  Lastly, the Board has made it a priority to ensure support of members who plan to attend the hearings to further the chapter's goal and mission.

3.  Emphasize the value of membership.  The Board plan on working hard this year to emphasize the value of membership and the benefits gained by increase participation.  We are not an island onto ourself and the Board wants to remind the membership that we are all working towards the same goals, enforcing the same codes, and can rely upon each other for assistance and advice.  The Board will look to foster more interaction among members so that we can all feel comfortable in knowing that help and support is only an email or phone call away.

The strength of this chapter at the end of the day relies on the membership and our willingness to participate and engage in activities that support our goals and missions.  When I first came onto the Board, little did I know that I would meet so many helpful people along the way that are knowledgeable and resourceful.  I've come to rely on them and I hope the membership will come to rely on the Board and the Chapter as well.

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing each of you at the next Chapter meeting.
